CEBU, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-7 has scheduled next month a public hearing on the P2.50 provisional fare increase petition filed by the Basak-Lapu-Lapu City Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association.

LTFRB-7 Director Eduardo Montealto said the public consultation will be held on October 15. The fare regulatory body earlier dismissed the petition for P5.50 fare increase filed by the same group in January.

"Nanawag ko sa head office namo and I was told that their petition nga P5.50 increase kay gi-deny due to some technicalities," said Montealto.

BALACJODA adviser and consultant Metudio Belarmino was surprised about the denial of their original petition.

"Mao ba, gi-deny diay? Wala mi kahibalo ana. We still have to receive a copy of that order," said Belarmino.

BALACJODA asked for provisional fare increase last week amid the series of fuel price increases. If approved, the minimum fare in Cebu would be P9.

BALACJODA cited the rising prices of fuel as well as the rising cost of spare parts among the reasons for asking fare increase. Montealto is inviting the public to attend the public hearing. (FREEMAN)
