CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City government has ordered to temporarily stop the implementation of the P35-million road concreting project on Tres de Abril Street, Cebu City.

Councilor Eugenio Gabuya Jr., who sits as the chairman of the City Council committee on public services, told reporters that Mayor Tomas Osmeña has ordered the postponement of the road concreting project in the area which was supposed to start on Monday.

He said the contractor will resume the road concreting project on Tres de Abril after the construction of the underpass project along N. Bacalso Avenue in May 2019.

“The project is good, the problem is na-timing kay nagdungan sa underpass,” Gabuya said.

He said the mayor came up with the decision after a number of concern citizens complained before the mayor’s office about the traffic problem in the area.

Osmeña called for a meeting with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Cebu City Transportation Office, and Quirante Construction, contractor of the project yesterday.

In the meeting, DPWH and the contractor agreed with the recent decision of the mayor.

However, they will start working on the portion of the road near Adventist Hospital Cebu (H.W Miller Memorial Sanitarium and Hospital).

Engr. Rogelio Quibilan, DPWH- Cebu City Engineering Department, said that they will start concreting the lane in front of the hospital.

“Dili totally close ang Miller, one way. Naay gamay puno sa traffic pero at least moving,” he said.

The road concreting is from the hospital up to Tres de Abril Street which is funded by the national government.

DPWH projected to complete the project within seven months.

Quibilan said the national office decided to fix the stretch, saying it is already dilapidated.

CCTO Traffic Officer II Ulysses Empic said they will not totally close the whole lane in front of the hospital and at least three traffic enforcers will be deployed to man the traffic flow in the area.

“Dili isira ang karsada, one lane raman. Makalusot ra ang sakyanan. Pero makacause ginagmay og traffic, passable rana. Anam-anamon lang nato ang trabaho,” Empic said. (FREEMAN)
