Senior citizen hacked, another shot to death

CEBU, Philippines —  A senior citizen, who had hack wounds in the upper part of his body, was found dead at Sitio Pamintacan, Barangay Cabasiangan, Balamban, Cebu last Friday morning.

 

The police identified the man as Guillermo Tundag, 65, a resident of the said place.

Police Senior Inspector Deni Mari Pedrozo told The FREEMAN that it was a gruesome Friday morning for the victim’s 13-year-old granddaughter.

The granddaughter, who was on her way to school, said she saw her grandfather soaked with his own blood lying under a mango tree, which is just a few meters away from their house.

When the police arrived, they later found out that he has hack wounds on his mouth down to his throat that caused his instantaneous death.

Pedrozo said that they are focusing their investigation on someone who Tundag had a fight with days before the incident happened.

They are eyeing on two persons of interest for this crime.

The police chief also mentioned on tracing Tundag's background to help unveil more possible motives of the crime.

Meanwhile, a 48-year-old man who was standing outside the gate of a private company in Barangay Bakilid, Mandaue City was shot dead by three unidentified assailant yesterday morning.

Altejar Ernesto suffered gunshot wounds on his chest and left shoulder, said Senior Police Officer 1 Remegio Arciaga of the Subangdaku Police Station 2.

Ernesto was shot around 8:56 a.m., according to the police.

Investigation revealed that Ernesto, a resident of Barangay Calindangan in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, was standing near the gate of a private company when three men on board a motorcycle arrived in the area.

Security Guard Johan Casio Aguis of Cordial Security Agency told the police that he heard three gunshots and saw three unidentified assailants fled using a motorcycle.

Ernesto was rushed to the Mandaue City District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival, said Arciaga.

At least three fired cartridges that came from a. 45 pistol were recovered from the crime scene.

The police are yet to know the motive of the incident and have yet to determine an angle.

They are still conducting a follow-up investigation into the incident. — Camille l. Pateres, GAN (FREEMAN)
