Lady cop, daughter injured in Apas fire

CEBU, Philippines —  A policewoman and her daughter were injured after a fire hit a PNP residential apartment in PC Hills, Barangay Apas, Cebu City, early morning yesterday.

 

Senior Police Officer 2 Charlyn Piedad suffered a dislocated ankle while her daughter, Nicole Piedad, 17, suffered a second degree burn in her left hand as they escaped from the fire which reportedly started in Piedad’s unit.

The Cebu City Fire department said that past 4 a.m. yesterday Piedad was awakened by heat in her room, when she left the room the living room was already on fire.

Fire investigator Senior Fire Officer 1 Ariel Balajadia said that the fire later spread and destroyed seven other nearby apartment units and damaged three other units.

The fire alarm was received around 4:54 a.m. and fire out was declared at 6:43 a.m. yesterday morning. Damage was set at P300,000, according to Balajadia.

Investigation is still ongoing to determine what started the fire. — BRP (FREEMAN)
