Mylen P. Manto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — A 22-year-old mother from Cordova, Cebu is charged with qualified trafficking before the Regional Trial Court for offering her two children, ages 2 and 5, to online customers for sexual exploitation.

The Cebu Provincial Prosecutor's Office has found probable cause to indict the mother for violation of Republic Act (RA) 9208 as amended by RA 10364 or Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act and RA 10175 or Cybercrime Prevention Act.

The Freeman withheld the name of the accused to protect the identity of her children who are now under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The mother was arrested Saturday by the operatives of Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG)-7 in Barangay Poblacion, Cordova, Cebu.

She was caught in the act of offering the sexual services of her two children to a foreigner in exchange for P3,000.

During the inquest investigation, the accused opted not to undergo preliminary investigation. She instead manifested to answer the charges directly before the court.

State Prosecutor Al Rey Ouano immediately recommended the filing of the criminal charges in court. The accused was not allowed to post bail for her temporary liberty.

ACG-7 chief Leo Dofiles said the accused was placed under surveillance since May. The entrapment operation last weekend which resulted in the arrest of the mother was also supported by the International Justice Mission. — FPL (FREEMAN)
