Teen nabbed with drugs

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — About P118,000 worth of illegal drugs were confiscated from a 19-year-old girl after the City Intelligence Branch/Drugs Enforcement Unit of the Cebu City Police Office conducted an intensified police operation at Ponce II, Barangay Carreta last Sunday.

The police identified the suspect as Larrylene Ardeño Caballero, 19, who was arrested on the spot for allegedly possessing two packs of suspected shabu during the operation.

Police Superintendent Christopher Lucas Navida, who led the operation, said his team had placed the suspect and the area under surveillance for two weeks before the operation.

"Actually for two weeks nag-surveillance at nag-conduct ng validation yung personnel natin dun sa area" he said.

Navida added he is not surprised with the incident especially that drug personalities usually deploy minors or young people to evade detection.

"She might be selling (the drugs) considering na masyadong malaki yung bag ng illegal drugs na confiscated sa kanya" he added.

Drug Charges

Meanwhile, a 32-year-old detainee of the Cebu City Jail is facing charges before the court for alleged shabu possession.

Abraham Villarico Daclison, a resident of Tupas St., Barangay Sawang Calero, Cebu City, was held for trial for violation of Section 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act after finding probable cause.

In an inquest proceeding, Daclison chose not to undergo preliminary investigation to answer the allegations filed against him before the Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor. Instead, he manifested to face it in court.

Prosecutor II Fatima Asjali-Maadil recommended P200,000 bail for the accused's temporary liberty.

Senior Jail Officer 3 Romeo Felisilda of the Cebu City Jail-Male Dormitory said that while he and their desk officer were conducting a Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) headcount, he saw some PDL at the lobby of Drug Offenders Building (DOB) Cell No. 9 gathering in the dark place.

Because he suspected something, he immediately approached them and took his flashlight and turned it on.

There, he saw a detainee later identified as Daclison holding a white object.

Felisilda ordered Daclison to open his hand and found two heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets believed to be shabu.  Daclison was then arrested for illegal possession of shabu.

"After placing him under arrest, I then brought him and the confiscated two heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets to the Office of the Intelligence and Investigation Unit for marking and inventory," he stated.

Felisilda said the marking and inventory of the contraband was not done at the Drug Offenders Building area because of the presence of some PDL gathered around which might cause danger to them.

Meanwhile, a 52-year-old man was arrested during a buy-bust operation conducted by Lapu-lapu City Police Office (LCPO) Station 5 at Kauswagan, Barangay Bankal, Lapu-lapu City Monday dawn.

Edilberto Bancale Ugsang was not on the police watchlist, but has surrendered before.

The police recovered nine packs of suspected shabu weighing five grams and worth P5,000 from Ugsang’s possession. — Chelsey Gaile B. Lapingcao, Mylen P. Manto, Verlie G. Laping/GAN (FREEMAN)
