LTO staff fined P5T for receiving money from traffic violator
CEBU, Philippines — A traffic aide was fined P5,000 after she pleaded guilty to receiving money from a jeepney driver apprehended for traffic violation.
Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) Judge Jenelyn Forrosuelo found Marilou Alferez guilty of violating Section 7(d) of Republic Act 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.
Alferez admitted the crime during the arraignment on February 20, 2018. The case stemmed from the complaint filed by public utility jeepney (PUJ) driver Socrates Funesto.
Funesto said he was apprehended on August 12, 2011 for traffic violation resulting in the confiscation of his license.
He went to the Land Transportation Office where he requested Alferez to reconsider his violation.
The accused allegedly told him to pay P1,500 for his violation. After paying the amount, he gave an additional P400 for her as token. Funesto said he got his license but did not get a receipt. — FPL (FREEMAN)
