CEBU, Philippines — Talisay City's number of dengue cases has significantly decreased with 11 cases from January 1 to February 10 this year.

The figure is very much lower than the recorded 119 dengue cases in the same period last year.

City health officer Lino Alanzado also revealed that there is no death due to dengue this year.

Talisay City placed sixth in the Province of Cebu in terms of dengue cases recorded. Toledo City is first with 26 cases, Minglanilla has 21 and Naga City has 19, while Balamban and Cordova both have 14 cases.

Alanzado attributed the decrease of dengue cases to the lesser number of rainy days and to the efforts of the anti-dengue task force of the city.

The mobilization of the task force in the 22 barangays in the city since last year has a great impact on the prevention of dengue.

Meanwhile, the Talisay City Health Office is currently monitoring a 7-year-old girl who was diagnosed with dengue last week.

The mother of the child said that the girl was not given the anti-dengue vaccine or Dengvaxia.

Alanzado said they did not give Dengvaxia vaccine to children below nine years old.

In December last year, a 10-year-old boy who was given the anti-dengue vaccine was diagnosed of dengue.

Jujen Abapo of Lawaan 3, Talisay City was discharged from the hospital days after his admission.  (FREEMAN)
