CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Office of Substance Abuse Prevention (COSAP) is now in charge of processing the honoraria of barangay tanods.

The processing of allowances was handled before by the Association of Barangay Council.

COSAP Chief Garry Lao said this development is aimed at addressing delays in the distribution of tanods’ honoraria.

Each tanod in Cebu City is receiving P4,000 monthly allowance.

To hasten the processing, Lao said, several personnel are assigned to check tanods’ lacking documents and follow-up them.

“For effective and efficient processing, naa mi personnel to do the payroll, and follow-ups,” he said.

Ex-officio Councilor Philip Zafra, ABC president, said he is looking forward to hasten the release of honoraria for tanods.

“Well, wala gyu’y problema. At least ang COSAP for the previous months involve man kaayo sila aning pag-monitor sa accomplishment reports sa tanod. Mas maayo man sad na. We’re looking forward nga mapaspas and hopefully dili na mabalhin og laing opisina,” he said

Currently, the COSAP is processing the payrolls of at least 21 barangays for the month of January.

These are Barangays Mabolo, Duljo Fatima, Poblacion Pardo, Pulang Bato, Bacayan, Agsungot, Tejero, Zapatera, Bonbon, Parian, Pasil, Kalunasan, Busay, Talamban, San Nicolas Proper, Budlaan, San Roque, Ermita, Apas, Mambaling, and Kinasang-an.

The tanods are required to submit their daily time record (DTR), accomplishment reports, a letter authorizing them to serve, among others.

The “authority to serve” signed by the mayor is only given to tanods who were tested negative for illegal drug use. (FREEMAN)
