Mandaue City dad to be buried today

Christell Fatima M. Tudtud - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The late Mandaue City Councilor Demetrio “Tatay Jun” Cortes Jr. will be laid to rest at the city’s Catholic cemetery this afternoon.

The remains of Cortes will be brought to the National Shrine of St. Joseph for a Requiem Mass and funeral rites at 3 p.m. from the Cortes ancestral house in Barangay Centro, near the Doctor Ignacio M. Cortes Hospital.

Cortes, 67, passed away on December 28 last year due to a chronic kidney disease, which he had been fighting against for over a year.

He is the third of 13 siblings.  He is the older brother of former mayor and now Cebu Sixth District Representative Jonas Cortes.

He was once a vice mayor of the city during the administration of former mayor Alfredo "Pedong" Ouano.

Before serving as vice mayor and city councilor, councilor Cortes was the former village chief of Barangay Centro. (FREEMAN)
