Fire razes old house in Tabuelan

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — A fire destroyed an ancestral house in Barangay Poblacion, Tabuelan on Wednesday evening.

The house was nearly 70 years old and belonged to Armingol Arendain.

Fire Officer Romualdo Paglinawan of the Bureau of Fire Protection-Tabuelan (BFP Tabuelan) said that they received the fire alarm at around 9:40 p.m. through a phone call from the son of the owner of the house, Charlemagne Arendain.

Fire Officer 1 Almar Bocado, the Chief Operations Officer of Tabuelan Fire Station, said that the fire spread fast all over the house since it is old and made up of light materials.

"Dugay naman gud daw ning balaya. Gikan pa ni sa mga apohan nila, mga 1950s pa daw," Bocado said.

BFP Tabuelan had completely put out the fire by 11:11 p.m.

Initial investigation conducted by the team of Fire Officer 2 Romualdo Paglinawan revealed that the house's old electrical wirings caused the blaze.

Bocado also encouraged the owners of ancestral and old houses to constantly update their electrical wirings.

"Amo silang giawhag nga kining mga wiring nga karaan, ipa-recheck or mas maayo, palinyahan na gyud og bag-o kay para safe kay tungod sa kadugay, pwede man na mo-brittle or napaakan na ba na sa mga ilaga," he said. (FREEMAN)
