Ordinance prohibiting parking in barangay streets pushed

CEBU, Philippines - Some streets in Barangay Maguikay, Mandaue City that are clogged with parked vehicles are limiting access to residents especially during emergencies.

This was the observation of Maguikay barangay councilman Edgar Cabahug, prompting him to file an ordinance that prohibits the parking of any type of vehicle in certain streets.

In the proposed Barangay Ordinance No. 06-2016, parking along a portion of Juez M.O. Echavez Street is not allowed, particularly from Santa Cruz Chapel down to the corner of Alfred Bongo Building.

Parking is also not allowed in the entire stretch of Bernardo Albano Street and Agripino Perez Street.

According to Cabahug, Albano Street is a busy street and just four meters wide, creating heavy traffic if vehicles are parked, he said.

"It has been safety concerns of the community that traffic on the road should be free to give access to all motor vehicles," Cabahug said.
