Weather Philippines: ‘More than just a weather app’

Yasunari Ramon Suarez Taguchi - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Backed by readings taken from more than 750 automated weather stations set up in different parts of the country, the “Weather Philippines” app-and-service suite raises the ante in what has become the standard weather monitoring services for Filipinos.

Accessible via web and mobile app variants (Android and iOS), the suite does more than deliver localized, crucial and accurate forecasts, it also links its users to a glossary of technical terms used in meteorology (in English and/or Filipino), daily graphical satellite analysis showing tropical systems in and around the country, advisories on pertinent storm and/or typhoon signal warnings/updates and more.

Spearheaded by the Weather Philippines Foundation, the service is backed by the Aboitiz group of companies, UnionBank and the MetroGroup —a global weather monitoring service organization that has operations in 15 countries.

Guided by the premise of providing relevant localized weather-related information, the service aims to reinforce nationwide disaster preparedness and timely responses to the variable weather conditions affecting the country –complementing the government’s efforts in enhancing the country’s weather monitoring and disaster preparedness initiatives.
