Mandaue bet wants case resolved soon

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City Councilor Beethoven Andaya wants an investigation against him to be resolved immediately.

Andaya, who is running for vice mayor under One Cebu Party, is confident that he will come out clean after the investigation.

“Mas maayo nga paspasan nila para ma-clear nako. In the first place, aware sila (the city government) nga naay receipt,” said Andaya.

The third-termer councilor said that being the chairman of the committees on business and cooperative he only acted as mediator between the city government and businessman Norma Vicoy, who asked for a discount during a Christmas Bazaar held from December 5 to January 5.

Vicoy was allegedly billed P214,528 by the City Treasurer’s Office but paid P64,000 less of the amount.

Joselito Ngujo accused Andaya of collecting the P64,000 from Vicoy and filed a complaint against the councilor before the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas.

The complaint, however, was referred to the Mandaue City government for investigation.

“Wa gyud koy gidawat bisag piso.Wa nasad ko kahibaw kung nabayran na ang balance,” said Andaya.

He explained that what he did was only to mediate between the city and Vicoy hoping that the cooperative sector would also earn from the bazaar. According to Andaya, Vicoy made payment directly to the treasurer’s office and was issued official receipt.

He described the complaint to be politically motivated.

“Political gyud ni, di ta kahibaw kung kinsa ni ang complaint, pero sigurado ko gikan ni sa pikas,” he said.  (FREEMAN)
