Let Go and Let God

LIFE'S ESSENCE - Katherine R. Oyson - The Freeman

Fear engulfed my inner being when I’ve learned lately that there might be some changes in my finances in the near future. I could not help but entertain some thoughts of uncertainty and anxiety. However, a small voice within me said, “If you are worried, that means you don’t trust God.”

To assuage myself and not falter in my trust in God’s faithfulness and compassion, I reminded myself on Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

In my moments of distress, feeling afraid or anxious, I always repeat this prayer of St. Teresa of Avila:

“Let nothing disturb you,

Let nothing frighten you,

All things are passing away,

God never changes.

Patience obtains all things,

Whoever has God lacks nothing;

God alone suffices.”

Saying this prayer in my heart, I open up to God and ask for His compassion, and invoking His help.

It’s really true that in praying I can feel a wave of calmness in my inner being and just keep on trusting the Lord because He is in control of everything. I let go and let God handle whatever is bothering me.

Mary Kupferte of Unity, a positive path for spiritual living website, exhorts, “…Begin now to release your burden by accepting that the most effective way to be in charge is to let God handle it. Regardless of the situation, your own personal involvement, or any need for help or healing, God will reveal the answers and show you the way.”

Kupferte suggests, “Begin the process of healing now by taking deep into your heart; say to yourself, ‘I am willing to let go and let God handle it all.’ Relax your entire being as much as you are able and affirm quietly.

Say, “I acknowledge that there is a presence and power beyond my understanding, ready to work through me as I let go. I know that myself I can do nothing, but with God all things are possible. I am willing to let go and let God handle it all.”

Kupferte gives this encouragement: “Yes, my dear friend, God’s infinite wisdom is available to you right now. God’s guidance and direction are at hand this very moment to lift you out right where you are.

As you begin to let go of trying to control challenges, remember that this does not mean that you are shirking your part in the process. Rather, it means that you are courageously facing challenges with a new awareness of your partnership with God and God’s presence and power within you. Accept that you can handle whatever confronts you because of the solid foundation of God’s spirit within you.”
