King Cake Festival

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Christmas celebrations are over, but the culinary feast continues as Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu brings a sweet French tradition in January – the King Cake Festival.

Dubbed as “Gallete de Rois” or the King Cake, this original French tradition celebrates the arrival of the Three Wise Men. The French have been observing this occasion since the 14th century and the cake is traditionally served on the 12th day of Christmas, January 6, to celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany.

Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu makes the celebration more fun as the hotel brings the festivity to The Sails restaurant. The King Cake will be served with a small charm inside – a “feve,” or as it means in French, “hidden inside the cake.”  How does it feel like to be king? The diner who gets the slice of cake where the feve is hidden will be Crowned King of the Day!

This festive treat is offered only during this period, so one must make sure not to miss out on this limited culinary special.

Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu is on Facebook and @movenpickcebu on Instagram and Twitter. Table reservations may be coursed through 492 7777 or [email protected].
