Belgium National Day Marked

PEOPLE PLACES - Flor Ynclino - The Freeman

For the last four years now, Belgium’s National Day is always celebrated on July 21st. This time around, the National Day of Belgium was marked with pomp and gaiety.

Leading this joyous celebration were Ambassador of Belgium Mr. Roland Van Remoortele and Mrs. Sylvia Remoortele and Consul of Belgium in Cebu, Mr. Enrique Benedicto and Mrs. Helena Benedicto, who welcomed all the guests at the entrance of the Grand Ballroom of Marco Polo Cebu, specially the Belgian nationals who were more this time than last year’s attendance. As Ambassador Remoortele delivered his message, a surprise to all was, when he announced that “this would be my last visit to Cebu, which I love so much, since a week from now, we will be going back to my homeland Belgium!” After his speech, he told us personally that this was already his second term (eight years’ stay in the Philippines). He added… “I love Cebu and I might visit Cebu in the future.”

At any rate, next day after the Belgian National Day, Ambassador and Mrs. Remoortele left for Bohol as guests of Consul and Mrs. Enrique Benedicto at their beautiful Grand Resort Hotel. From Bohol, Ambassador and Mrs. Remoortele were flying back to Belgium. God speed, Mr. Ambassador!
