The Freeman @ 98!

PEOPLE PLACES - Flor Ynclino - The Freeman

It’s unbelievable… but true. And who has ever reached this far? If you ask me… only The Freeman, and there is no other. The Freeman… the longest running newspaper in Cebu!

We marked simply our anniversary – the 98th in fact – with solemnity and elan. But on this auspicious occasion, we missed our beloved Chairman Jose “Dodong” Gullas who couldn’t be with us due to personal reasons. But his son, Vice-Chairman Johnvic  Gullas represented on his behalf. With President Miguel G. Belmonte coming all the way from Manila, everybody was so happy with his presence, especially that he brought good news about the Philippine Star and The Freeman. And for this revelation, he received a thunderous applause from the ever-supportive employees of The Freeman.

Actually, our simple anniversary started with a Thanksgiving Mass celebrated by Msgr. Ruben Labajo. After the mass, then followed the buffet lunch, and ended the day’s affair with the awarding of employees who have been continuously with The Freeman for 40, 20 and 10 years.

Two years from now, yes, two years more to go, God willing, we will be celebrating our 100th year anniversary. PTL!
