MANILA, Philippines — In celebration of Cebu Press Freedom Week 2023, GMA Regional TV and Synergy will bring back the GMA Masterclass Series to the Queen City of the South for the “GMA Masterclass Series: The Cebu Press Freedom Week Special” tomorrow, Monday (September 18) at the University of the Philippines-Cebu.

GMA Integrated News pillar Howie Severino, veteran broadcast journalist Pia Arcangel, multimedia journalist Aileen Perez, and regional correspondent Nikko Sereno will join the panel to share insights and experiences on the topic “Journalism in the Age of AI (Artificial Intelligence).”

Severino is Editor-at-large of GMA News Online and consultant for GMA Integrated News; Arcangel is anchor for national newscasts “Saksi” and “24 Oras Weekend”; Perez is Assistant Vice President and Deputy Head for Social Media of GMA Integrated News; and Sereno is anchor of the morning news program “GMA Regional TV LIVE!”

The event will be hosted by GMA Sparkle host and sportscaster Martin Javier, with a performance from Queendom’s Jessica Villarubin, the Cebuana champion of “The Clash” Season 3.

Now on its 31st year, the Cebu Press Freedom Week has provided opportunities for media practitioners, student journalists, and the public to come together to discuss issues that affect news consumption and the practice of journalism. It also serves as a collective call for the continued protection of press freedom, which is crucial in a democracy.

The last time The Masterclass Series visited Cebu was in October 2022 at the University of San Jose-Recoletos for the “The Icons Series”, which featured GMA’s Chief Marketing Officer Lizelle G. Maralag.

Since 2018, the GMA Masterclass Series has provided students and the academe an avenue for learning and discourse on local and national issues. — (FREEMAN)
