CEBU, Philippines —   As the more experienced actor, ABS-CBN’s action-drama prince Gerald Anderson said that he made certain his leading lady Ivana Alawi feels protected while taping their steamy scenes in the primetime series “A Family Affair.”

“One particular love scene was difficult for her because she was exposed in a way na mahirap siya talaga bilang isang babae. Kami ni Direk Jerome noon, ang trabaho namin is alalayan siya, make sure na feel niya na safe siya,” said Gerald.

To help the vlogger-actress feel more comfortable, director Jerome Pobocan played a song of Ivana’s choice while filming.

“As her partner in that scene, inalalayan ko para hindi ma over-exposed. But she’s very passionate, napaka-professional, and deep down inside talaga, alam ko na gustong-gusto ni Ivana yung ginagawa niya. Kahit na mahirap, pero kita mo na gusto niya,” Gerald continued.

The 33-year-old star said it was difficult for him to ensure that his scenes with Ivana are disctinct his previous love scenes.

“Naka ilang love scene na din ako, so it’s always a challenge kung paano ibahin or kahit yung simpleng pagtingin sa kanya, kung paano ko aanuhin yung buhok niya or hawakan yung balikat niya, kailangan kong ibahin.”

When Gerald first heard that he will be working with Ivana, he admitted thinking it would be challenge as he only knew her as a YouTube star and had zero acting experience.

“Hindi ko alam na nakagawa na pala siya ng ibang proyekto. Ang alam ko lang isa siyang YouTube star so sabi ko ‘Wow paano ‘to?’ But again, pagdating sa trabaho nagulat ako na very passionate and gusto niya ang ginagawa niya.”

Among his fellow “A Family Affair” actors, Gerald said he is closer to to Sam Milby, who like him, is already in his 16th year in the show business.

In the series, Gerald plays Paco, the second-born son of the Estrellas who finds himself caught in a love triangle with Ivana’s Cherry Red and Sam Milby’s Dave.

Gerald, who remained among the busiest talents during the pandemic, was likewise asked about his learnings the past two years and his choice to stay with ABS-CBN Network.

“Sobrang grateful na kumbaga namulat tayong lahat na maraming pwedeng magbago at maraming nagbago. To be able to keep working ang keep providing para sa pamilya ko and for myself, I feel very grateful,” he said.

But there’s also a downside. Bilang actor mahirap din siya pag sunod-sunod ang trabaho mo. Mentally, emotionally, kapag may bagong character na kailangan gawin mas may challenge to do something different, to do something better.”

With his co-actors who transferred to a different network, he understands their choice.

“At the end of the day, kanya-kanyang journey yan. Ang pinaka imporante is kung paano tayo makakapag-provide sa pamilya natin, kung paano tayo kumita.”

“A Family Affair” airs weekdays at 9:20 pm on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z, Jeepney TV, TFC IPTV, and TV5. It can also be streamed on iWantTFC. - Syril Gemida, CNU Intern
