Bolder, braver in ‘Gameboys: The Movie’

STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

The fans of “Gameboys,” starring Kokoy de Santos and Elijah Canlas, are eagerly awaiting the streaming of “Gameboys The Movie” on July 30. The limited early bird tickets were sold out in a jiffy.

“Gameboys” fans seemed to have dared each other as to who will be the first to buy tickets for the movie’s world premiere. There was a mad scramble and in an instant, tickets were sold out. Some of the fans were disheartened for having missed buying the early bird tickets because of the strong demand. But more tickets will be available soon.

Here’s our unedited Q & A with Kokoy and Elijah (courtesy of the kindness of director Perci Intalan) as they talk about their upcoming movie:

How do you feel as the playdate of “Gameboys The Movie” is fast approaching?

E: I’m just really excited to see the film myself. It’s always a different level of fulfillment as an artist once you see the output of everyone’s hard work and passion on screen. I can’t wait for the new audiences and the whole ‘Gameboys’ fandom to see it as well.

What do they look forward to in the said event?

E: For the people to watch the film. New fans included.

What did they learn from the amazing journey of the series?

E: This may sound cliché, but nothing really is impossible. Imagine, we were shooting the pilot for the first season over a year ago. With no idea how to work around the process of Zoom filmmaking. Shooting remotely inside our homes. Being directed and instructed through Zoom. Using our own personal phones as cameras. It’s crazy to think that all of that led us to today. It keeps me going.

Have they watched the whole movie?

E: Not yet. But I have no doubt it’s going to be amazing.

How different is the movie, content-wise, from the series?

Excited? Very Excited!

E: I think the biggest and most obvious difference is that the movie is not told through the video call set-up that everyone was accustomed to from the first season. The movie is bolder, braver, and the stakes are just as high if not higher.

Check out KTX and Ticket2Me as they will start selling the tickets to all the Philippine and International screenings soon.

The trailer of “Revirginized,” the upcoming movie of Megastar Sharon Cuneta, under the direction of Darryl Yap, became the trending topic on Twitter when it was released Sunday.

Maybe people got curious how “different” Sharon is in the movie and the trailer got more than five million views which we hope will translate into sales when it streams on August 6.

The fans of Sharon had an ambivalent reaction upon learning that the award-winning actress is doing a project with the controversial director. Some of them reacted that Sharon should not have accepted the project since the name Darryl Yap and his projects are synonymous to controversy.

Sharon, however, assured her fans that while “Revirginized” is not the usual stuff that she does, at her age, she should be given the opportunity to experiment and do something else.

She liked the script that’s why she agreed to do it as her comeback vehicle for Viva Films. We watched the trailer and yes, it was a different Sharon alright, with her uttering dialogues we didn’t imagine she’ll have the guts to say, knowing her wholesome image.

But she is just playing a role and it’s nice to see her do something edgy and out of the ordinary. And “Revirginized” borders on the risqué, meaning it is slightly indecent and meant to shock by being sexually suggestive.

Are Sharon’s fans welcome to the change or they’d rather see the old prim and proper Sharon?

We will know the answer when “Revirginized” streams on Vivamax on August 6.
