Just a pit stop

CEBU, Philippines —  Rabiya Mateo, who finished at the Top 21 of the 69th Miss Universe, took to her Instagram account Monday night to address her pageant-crazy countrymen.

“It was such a beautiful moment to represent you, Philippines. I am forever honored to be part of the legacy, of our history. In my heart, I did everything I can. I trained really hard to be physically fit. I would have sleepless nights trying to read articles to be updated.”

She added, “I made a lot of sacrifices people can’t sometimes see. Early call time. Late night rest. Trying to be sane and motivated. It was a challenge but it made me so much stronger everyday. Salamat mga kababayan! Mahal ko kayo!”

She also made special mention of Miss Universe Philippines creative director Jonas Gaffud for all his sacrifices.

Miss Universe Philippines 2014 MJ Lastimosa – who has endeared herself to netizens with her social media wisecracks in support of Rabiya and for Olivia Culpo’s social media trending hosting –  also posted a message for the 24-year-old Ilongga.

She advised her to acknowledge her fate, hold her head up and move on. Miss Universe is just a pit stop, MJ said, and that she was sure bigger things are awaiting her because of her attitude and diligence.

“The result may not be how we wanted it to be but it will never define you. We know your hard work and enthusiasm for this, and please know that all of those sleepless, restless, tearful, and tough days where you pushed through will never be left unappreciated,” MJ wrote.

“Gaya nga ng sinabi ko sayo few days ago, walk the stage with a grateful heart. It is and will always be a beautiful experience, a memory to keep, your story to tell. We love you, I love you! Ari lang si Nang MJ para simo gid.”
