Film producer enters the beauty industry

STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

Former Viva Executive and film producer Rina Navarro just launched her skin care line called Unfiltered Skin Industry Cosmetic Store which sells a whole line of skin care products fit for the Filipino skin.

In a Zoom conference held the other day, Rina shared her passion for beauty started when she was still a student. She would go to this laboratory which sells a certain brand of soap which she uses and sells to her siblings and classmates.

Rina is a single mom and she says it’s no mean feat to raise kids during the pandemic. Good thing she already has a 19-year-old daughter who helps her run Unfiltered Skin Industry even from home. Rina meets her employees in the comfort of her home to plan business strategies and talk about their products.

“One of our most popular products is the serum and the day cream, which also serves as a sunblock,” said Rina who started her business when the pandemic struck last year. “The serum is a protection against ageing. We also get good feedback from our soap since we have repeat buyers.”

According to Rina, self-care starts with good skin care. “If we take good care of our skin, we will feel good about ourselves. Plus, our products are totally safe to use even by kids, 13 years and above, of course with the supervision of their parents. We even have clients from the LGBT community from which we also got good feedback.”

She admits there were many challenges but this did not discourage Rina to give her all to this endeavor. She had scary moments thinking how the skin care business could prosper during the pandemic but to her surprise, many women still wanted to look and feel good so they still make an effort to take care of their skin and well-being.

Rina, who is beautiful enough to be a celebrity, said she would be willing to have her life story made into a movie but not right now because she wants to have a happy ending. She became a widow at a young age and this made her tough as she raised her kids alone. But she never entertained thoughts of becoming an artista and would rather work behind the scenes.

She was involved in the filmfest entry “Bonifacio” and while she might be enticed to go back to film production, it will only happen if cinemas open again. “I love doing movies because I put my heart into it. That’s how I do it with also my Unfiltered Skin – I give it my all as well. I run my business like a family. We want the best for me and our employees, as well as our sellers whom we consider as our partners.”
