‘Fan Girl’ triumphs at 4th Eddys Awards
“Fan Girl” took home seven awards, including Best Picture and Best Director for Antoinette Jadaone, at the 4th Eddys Awards held on Easter Sunday. The 4th Eddys was streamed via the FDCP Channel and other platforms.
It also bagged top acting honors for its lead stars Charlie Dizon and Paulo Avelino who won Best Actress and Best Actor, respectively.
It was a repeat of their victories at the 46th Metro Manila Film Festival last December.
“Fan Girl” also won the award for Best Screenplay for Jadaone, as well as Best Sound (Vincent Villa) and Best Editing (Benjamin Tolentino).
Charlie thanked the people who supported “Fan Girl,” the team behind the movie most especially Jadaone, the Rise Artist Studio family, ABS-CBN Films and the ABS-CBN management. She also dedicated the award to her family.
Paulo was not present at the awarding so it was Jadaone who accepted his trophy.
“I share this award to the other nominated directors. And I also dedicate this award to the team behind ‘Fan Girl.’ We were successful to have finished a film during the pandemic. Thank you to those who spread the word about ‘Fan Girl’ when cinemas are still closed and the only way to show it is via online streaming platforms,” said the director who also dedicated the awards to her parents.
She likewise gave credit to her courageous producers Bianca Balbuena and Dan Villegas for greenlighting “Fan Girl.” She then shared the award to the other nominated movies, and other films produced in 2020.
Jadaone said the victory of “Fan Girl” is meaningful because they didn’t allow the film industry to die, despite challenges posed by the pandemic.
Edgar Allan “EA” Guzman was surprised when his name was called as Best Supporting Actor for “Coming Home.”
“Oh my God! This was totally unexpected. I would like to thank the Lord for giving me the talent, the passion. Every project that He gives me, I give it my passion and love for my craft,” said EA who dedicated his award to his family, girlfriend Shaira Diaz, to all his inspirations and to those who continue to support his career.
He also thanked his fans, his GMA Network family, Artist Center and ALV Family.
Named Best Supporting Actress was Shaina Magdayao for “Tagpuan.”
Other winners are Rody Lacap (Best Cinematography - Magikland), Richard Francis and Ryan Grimarez (Best Visual Effects - Magikland), Erickson Navarro (Best Production Design - Magikland), On Vodka, Beers and Regrets, and The Boy Foretold by the Stars (Tie for Best Musical Score), and Ulan (Best Original Theme Song from the movie The Boy Foretold By the Stars).
The Eddys Service Award was given to FDCP Chairperson Liza Dino Seguerra.

Janine Gutierrez, the lead actress of “Dito at Doon,” was among those who watched the JP Habac movie when it premiered via streaming last week. The Urian and Famas best actress awardee was very excited to watch her movie.
“Just like everyone else, it was my first time to watch the film and I would like to thank those who joined us in the premiere. It was my first time to premiere a movie like this pero talagang pinaramdam nila ang suporta at pagmamahal sa pelikula,” said the actress.
Janine is urging her fans abroad to wait for the movie’s International release via streaming.
“Dito and Doon” was supposed to open in cinemas last March 15 had there not been a spike in Covid-19 cases in the metro.
“I really want to watch a movie, just like Direk JP, in the cinema. I am looking forward to watching a movie in a theater since it is really a different experience. But you know we need to adjust which is the safest for us. I envy the countries who have opened their cinemas and are able to accommodate moviegoers.”
A year into the lockdown, how does Janine cope with boredom?
“Kung bored ka, malaking privilege yun na wala kang pinoproblema. Problema mo lang kung ano ang gagawin mo. Kung bored bili ka ng lang ng ticket and watch this movie,” she said.
Janine said she liked “Dito at Doon” more after watching it. “Wala pa akong napanood na ganoong movie.Thanks to Direk JP nagawa niyang bago ang isang kwento na ganoon lang ang usapan or thru the phone. Na-enjoy ko siya. I am always nervous during the premiere of my movie and this was no different. Wala rin naman palang pagbabago kahit virtual kasi kinabahan pa rin ako. I was surprised na even if I knew the story, na-hooked pa rin ako.”
