Kylie veering away from beauty queen image

Vanessa A. Balbuena - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Perhaps mindful that she is relatively an acting newbie, Kylie Verzosa was described by her “Parang Kayo Pero Hindi” co-star Xian Lim as an extra diligent cast member, that she was teased for often burrowing her nose on a script instead of slacking it off with them.

“She’s really fun to be with as a person. In ‘Love The Way U Lie,’ we didn’t reach the point na palagi kami magka-eksena,” Kylie’s leading man in the Vivamax Original Series shared.

“Here [Parang Kayo Pero Hindi], you can tell she’s serious with what she’s doing. Sometimes gusto namin ni Direk [RC delos Reyes] makipagkwentuhan kay Kylie, but she’s the type of actress you always see in a corner reading her script, making sure she’s doing her job. It became a running joke on set na ‘Grabe si Kylie, nagtatrabaho.’”

The Miss International 2016 title-holder sounds dead-set on making a mark as an actress, so much so that she hopes people slowly forget she’s a beauty queen and consider her a serious screen performer.

“I did start out as a beauty queen but alam talaga nila Boss Vic [del Rosario of Viva] na gusto ko maging isang aktres,” the 29-year-old star of upcoming Viva film “The Housemaid” said.

“Transitioning from being a beauty queen wasn’t the easiest, and I’m thankful to be given the opportunity. Hindi siya madali dahil tingin ng mga tao sayo beauty queen. Unti-unti ko sinusubukan tanggalin yung image na yun at ipakita kung sino talaga si Kylie. Ang makikita niyo sa mga proyekto ko, iba sa Kylie na nakilala niyo as Miss International. I hope viewers will appreciate it. I’m excited for people to see what else I can give.”
