Rocco Nacino joins feeding activity for quarantined soldiers

STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky Calderon - The Freeman

Just because Coco Martin said his piece about the cancellation of ABS-CBN's franchise, he was pilloried and debased like there’s no tomorrow. Some even posted Coco’s old photographs when he was still a struggling indie actor in an effort to embarrass him.

These people were quick to judge Coco because of his outburst of foul language when he became emotional, which is understandable because he lost his top-rating show that is giving jobs to many. Of course, Coco is concerned how these people will cope with the loss of income during this time of pandemic.

But the same people who lambasted him just snicker and laugh when the highest official in the land peppers his speeches with foul language, not once or twice, but most of the time? How is that for double standard?

Many also defended Coco’s stand over the ABS-CBN issue. He has helped many people yet he chose to be quiet about it. And he apologized for his outburst. Coco has learned not to let emotions get the better of him. Give him a chance to redeem himself.

Although his work as an actor is presently at “rest” for the moment, Rocco Nacino is keeping himself occupied by doing service for his fellowmen affected by the pandemic.

The "Descendants of the Sun" star recently took part in a feeding activity for quarantined soldiers through the help of Brigadier General Charize Manzano of the Marines.

Rocco and his girlfriend Melissa Gohing, together with the team S.T.A.R.S. of the  Philippine Navy, visited the marine soldiers to cheer them up as they continue their work as frontliners.

In his Instagram post, Rocco praised the effort of the Marines who after serving the people, will have to go on quarantine before they can join their families. Imagine the length of time these Marines have to endure before they are reunited with their loved ones.

The Kapuso actor added that since the Navy has a strict contact policy, they were only able to talk with the frontliners from afar. He also took the opportunity to thank the reservists and volunteers who took on the job as frontliners.

While "Descendants of the Sun" stopped taping because of the quarantine, his fans can still watch Rocco in the rerun of "Encantadia" on GMA Telebabad after "24 Oras."

Why is Ms. Vivian Velez, the current chairman of the Film Academy of the Philippines, calling for the abolition of Congress because it is giving ABS-CBN a provisional franchise?

Does Ms. Velez have an axe to grind against ABS-CBN? Well, she is probably still hurting over the incident when ABS-CBN took her out of a TV series after having an issue with fellow actress Cristine Reyes.

But that was years ago. Maybe Ms. Velez doesn’t believe in moving on. At any rate, being the head of FAP, it is rather odd that she is taking ABS-CBN to task. After all, ABS-CBN is helping many actors get jobs in their movies and teleseryes.

If and when the network gets a new franchise and starts making shows and movies again, it is most likely to give jobs to actors who are members of the Actors Guild that is under the umbrella of the Film Academy of the Philippines, headed by the actress who was dubbed as Ms. Body Beautiful during her prime.
