Coco, Jennylyn display good chemistry

STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

Actor-director Coco Martin turned in a very entertaining movie via his film festival entry “3Pol Trobol Huli Ka Balbon” which opened in cinemas on Wednesday, December 25.

The movie opens with a slambang action sequence. Coco, who portrays Apollo Balbon, gets involved in highly-charged action scenes with Rowell Santiago who plays the head of an anti-crime agency.

To be fair to Coco, he really knows how to tickle his audience.

As he said during the movie’s press conference, he made sure the people will get their money’s worth. There is action, comedy, romance, and just pure entertainment in “3Pol Trobol Huli Ka Balbon.” All the elements that would make for an entertaining movie, Coco made sure he has it in the film.

One thing that would endear Coco to those who will watch the movie is his putting on a disguise as Paloma, the supposed half-sister of Jennylyn Mercado. He had to put on a disguise to get close to Jennylyn to protect her. Jennylyn’s character is the daughter of his boss (Rowell Santiago) whose life is in danger.

When he does action, Coco is all macho. But when he transforms to Paloma, she is one beautiful lady whose charming ways can melt a man.

Coco and Jennylyn have good chemistry together.

“3Pol Trobol Huli Ka Balbon” boasts of many actions scenes created and directed by Senator Lito Lapid. The good senator has nothing but praises for Coco for giving him the break to direct the fight scenes.

Early last week, some people got wind that Coco might not be able to attend the filmfest parade. He was not feeling well and was supposed to report for a shoot for a new movie.

But lo and behold, Coco’s photos dressed as Paloma suddenly appeared in social media, indicating that the actor was joining the parade, but as Paloma. And it was an instant hit.

If we know Coco, he will do anything to please his fans. That’s how much he loves them and how his fans love him back. Besides, he wrote, directed and starred in “3Pol Trobol Huli Ka Balbon,” so he will do everything to make his movie stand out and please his fans.

Will it be a sure win for Aga Muhlach as best actor in the filmfest for his role as the father in “Miracle in Cell No. 7?

This is the prediction of many showbiz observers who believe that Aga has it in the bag, saying the project is perfect for his acting talent.

They feel that Aga is unbeatable. No one can match his intensity and acting prowess displayed in the movie which is a remake of a popular Korean film.

It is a given that Aga is a good actor and it won’t be difficult for him to essay the role of a father who was jailed for a crime he didn’t commit.

This movie was a big hit when shown in cinemas in Korea. But we were just wondering how a remake of a Korean film was selected as entry in a local festival. Shouldn’t we be espousing the production of original material, not a remake, especially for a festival of beautiful movies?

“Culion” had a very successful and well-attended premiere night at the SM Megamall Cinema 4 last Saturday.

The entire cast of the film plus director Alvin Yapan and writer Ricky Lee graced the premiere, together with first time producers Peter and Gilie Sing.

One of the most applauded scenes in the movie was the brief scene involving John Lloyd Cruz who plays the man who was stood up by Meryl Soriano on their wedding.

Although it was a short appeance, the scene was very effective, with Lloydie and Meryll not saying words but their stares evoked countless messages.

“Culion” is now showing in cinemas and is one of the entries in the Metro Manila Film Festival 2019.

The awards ceremonies will be held at the Kia Theater tonight.
