Pops, Martin reunite in ‘The Royal Affair’

Pops met with the media over dinner at the posh Red Lantern at Solaire Hotel and expressed her excitement that she is doing a New Year’s Eve show with Martin no less.

“Martin and I haven’t done a show together locally for some time and this concert is a first for both of us. This is just supposed to be my New Year’s Eve show but Martin decided he wants to be part of it,” she said with a laugh.

“I am very excited to do this. It’s been a long time since I last performed in Manila. This is going to be a full-blown show and it’s going to be my first after a long time in Solaire.”

Pops said that before she started her US concert tour with Martin, she was kind of nervous because she hasn’t had a concert for a long while. She appreciates that Martin agreed to perform with her again.

“It makes things easier. It makes me more comfortable being onstage because I am not alone. I expect this New Year show to be a fun, fun show with Martin,” said Pops.

Pops added that they would want to welcome the New Year in a very positive way. They want to entertain everyone. “We want to do something positive before midnight and we just want everyone to be happy here in Solaire thru our concert.”

Just a few weeks after a sold-out tour in the United States, it is but fitting that a reunion concert be held in Manila where Pops and Martin are sure to do knockout numbers that will entertain the audience.

While he may be considered a newbie mainstream actor, Mike Liwag considers himself lucky since his first big project is starring opposite award-winning actress Jasmine Curtis-Smith in the 2019 Metro Maniila Film Festival entry “Culion.”

He started out as a theater actor and appeared in several thesis films. He auditioned for Cinemalaya where he did his debut film “Nuwebe.” He did mostly supporting roles since he ventured into movie acting. “Culion” is the biggest break he has had so far.

“I auditioned to be part of the ensemble cast of ‘Culion.’ Mahirap ang audition, most especially when they narrowed down the choices. Konti na lang kami pinabalik sa callback and then I learned from Shandii (Bacolod, their line-producer) and Alvin (Yapan, our director) that I was chosen to play Jaime, the love interest of Jasmine.”

“I was really excited, honored and pressured to act alongside Jasmine, as well as the other cast members. I’ve seen her movies and I truly admire her as an actress,” said Mike, who hopes “Culion” will open more acting opportunities for him. [email protected]
