Pageant season continues for Pinoy aspirants and fans

CEBU, Philippines — Six beauties may have been named queens in the recent Binibining Pilipinas coronation, but that’s no reason to tear our eyes away from the pageant scene what with more national tilts preparing their own stagings. Pageant season has only begun, after all.

Miss Philippines Earth 2019 is already well under way, with official candidates busily doing their work and learning from sponsor visits, TV appearances, as well as clean-up projects. The search for an ambassador of environmental protection, Miss Philippines Earth 2019 by Carousel Productions Inc., alongside the Miss Earth Foundation, Inc., emphasizes awareness on environmental programs, reinventing and improving the concept of beauty competitions.

This year, apart from actively promoting and involving their candidates in preserving nature, Miss Philippines Earth highlights the beauty of flora and its importance. Mariafe Loayon, a 19-year-old from the town of San Remigio, Cebu is among the candidates.

Another national competition, Mutya Pilipinas 2019, is already scouring the country for potential beauties to join their ranks. The pageant, formerly known as Mutya ng Pilipinas, has changed not only its name,  but also its franchise ownership. Cory Quirino now stands as President, following the resignation of Hemily Escudero-Tamayo last January.

In an official statement posted on the pageant’s Facebook page, Quirino explained that the Mutya Pilipinas rebranding has to do with “keeping the spirit of newness.”

“Phonetically speaking, its name flows more smoothly as pronounced. Symbolizing the arrival of a refreshed version of the 51-year-old pageant, the name Mutya Pilipinas sets its sights towards more exciting alliances in the years to come.”

With the ongoing search for candidates, 20 standouts are eyed to participate in the Cebu search according to Cebu franchise director Lemuel Rosos. Slated to take place in August, Mutya Pilipinas 2019, which aims to highlight everything that is beautiful about the Filipina, will be crowning ladies who have what it takes to represent the country in Miss Asia Pacific International, Miss Tourism International, Miss Tourism Queen of the Year, and Miss Intercontinental.

And just last week, Miss World Philippines announced their search for  Filipinas between 17-26 years of age and at least five feet and four inches tall. With a July 26 deadline for applications, it’s only a matter of time before the competition names a Filipina to represent the country on the international level, with partner competitions namely: Miss World, Reina Hispanoamericana, Miss Eco International, and Miss Multinational.

Will Cebuanas once again shine in these upcoming competitions?
