Negros Oriental capitalizes on farm-fork-fitness concept

CEBU, Philippines — The province of Negros Oriental is capitalizing its farm tourism attraction to improve livelihood opportunities especially to farmers.

The Department of Tourism – Central Visayas (DOT-7) and the Province of Negros Oriental jointly presented at the recent Cebu Travel Catalogue International (CTCI) show held in Ayala Center Cebu the innovative farm-fork-fitness experience, which includes a stop at a rabbit farm.

The farms of Negros Oriental weave a one-of-a-kind story for visitors. A tour of the farms affords interesting insights into a province of haciendas, some of which were once owned by Spanish gentry. The experience as well allows visitors to revel in a rich tapestry of natural wonders of its highlands.

Oliver Lemence, Administrative Officer II of the Negros Oriental Provincial Tourism Office, shared during the CCI product presentation that the Negros Oriental experience stands out for its cultural and historical significance.

Bayawan City at the southernmost tip of the province has Joeltess Organica Farm, Agridevelopments Corporation and Inland Fresh Water Aquaculture for tourists to visit. Moving northward, the Municipality of Dauin showcases the Baslay Highland Brew Coffee and the Kawayan Collective.

The Municipality of Valencia, west of the capital Dumaguete City, has the refreshing river and waterfalls and delectable cuisine of Forest Camp Resort and the products of its local dairy cooperative to offer.

In Pamplona, which hosts the Balinsasayaw Twin Lakes, Aljous Salomon has designed Rabbiton Farm, a multi-experience affair which has demonstrated a huge increase in popularity with the tourism reboot this year.

The Rabbiton Farm not only allows close encounters with the beloved furry long-eared mammals, but also horse rides and an educational encounter with various species of chickens, including the Ayam Cemani, an all-black breed from Indonesia.
