Limiting your dreams

BUSINESS AFTER BUSINESS - Romelinda Garces - The Freeman

They say that there are no limits to dreams and you can dream on. There is nothing wrong to keep our wishes high but there is definitely something amiss when we stress ourselves to reach goals that are far beyond our reach.

The pandemic has shown us how simple life is after all. As long as we have food on the table, family to share it with, friends to call, a shelter above our heads and a shirt on our backs, and good health, that should be about it. Still we stretch and turn and push and shove just to meet life goals that may not necessarily build happiness.

Now, what satiates us may vary, as satisfaction is relative. Yet when we examine our pursuits, we realize we may have unnecessarily stepped over and broken our backs over what then seemed important and on hindsight is not really relevant.

Clearing the closets has led me to some of the trophies we so coveted and worked hard for. Now the awards have tarnished and some of   wood eaten by termites. Accolades that no longer have a use and events that have long been forgotten and etched only in the memories of those who have survived to this age. The memories may continue to bring a smile and a flush of pride but that is all. Memories. Poignant and significant to those who have taken part in its forming. Perhaps what is left is the legacy of teamwork and camaraderie that can be passed on to the next generation. Otherwise it’s like a whiff of passing air, unnoticed.

Many things we do really just have passing value. Limit your dreams to the doable so you can have fun pursuing them and not end up with conflict and fatigue. Seek things of lasting relevance. Relationships, family, faith.
