CEBU, Philippines —  Gokongwei-led Robinsons Bank (RBank) is set to open its Digital Bank platform, pending the approval of Bangko Sentral Ng Pilipinas (BSP).

“RBank invested in a Digital Bank in partnership with a South African digital bank, Tyme Bank. Currently, we are waiting for the BSP approval for the digital bank,” said RBank president and chief executive officer (CEO) Elfren Antonio S. Sarte.

According to Sarte, while the bank is also aggressive in expanding its physical footprint nationwide, it is also working on building its digital banking capabilities.

“We are [also] continuously developing RBank Digital, our mobile banking application that provides an easy and secure banking experience at your fingertips,” he added.

Meanwhile, the commercial bank is also expanding its investments in RBank insurance package, through Unicon Insurance broker “to be able to offer insurance products thru RBank’s digital platforms as well as its branches.”

Sarte mentioned that RBank has been an early adopter in the evolving digital payments landscape. In fact, it has already implemented the interoperable mobile payment via QR code through RBank’s QR Pay, he added.

Recently, RBank opened its 6th branch in Cebu located at the ground floor of Park Centrale Tower, in Cebu IT Park.

“RBank believes in an omni-channel approach in serving customers— whether clients are going through a digital journey or opt to connect with our branches, they will always the same seamless customer journey,” noted Sarte.
