CEBU, Philippines — In a bid to help augment the growing demand for clean water in Cebu, bulk water supplier Mactan Rock Industries Inc. (MRII) builds two water plants in the town of Compostela and Mandaue City.

With the combined 15,500 cubic meters daily (CMD) production from barangay Cabadiangan, Compostela and Guizo plants, MRII’s total bulk water supply capacity in Cebu is now at 62,500 CMD. Of this total production, 33,500 CMD is contracted to MCWD.

According to MRII chairman Antonio Tompar said the building of this two new plants aligns with the company’s thrust to help augment the rising demand for clean water specifically in Metro Cebu where population migration and new business investments are increasing.

Aside from MCWD, Mactan Rock also serves various commercial and industrial establishments such as malls, refilling stations, hotels and resorts, and other water districts nationwide.

To date, its overall build capacity is at 307,227 CMD.

MRII started operating a new water treatment facility in Compostela town and signed a new deal for a desalination plant in Mandaue City to boost its bulk water supply capacity in Metro Cebu.

Metro Cebu covers the towns of Cordova, Compostela, Liloan, Consolacion, San Fernando, and Minglanilla; the cities of Cebu City, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, Danao, Carcar, Talisay, and Naga.

Mactan Rock, through its partnership with the local government units and MCWD, provides clean water to residents and businesses of these areas.

The newly completed 12,500 CMD water treatment plant in barangay Cabadiangan, Compostela is the first inclined plate lamella clarifier system implemented in Cebu and will be utilizing surface water from Cotcot River.

The lamella clarifier is one of the approved products and processes in England for use in public water supply.

“Lamella clarifiers are known for their high efficiency clarification process. Choosing lamella over other clarifying systems is a big boost to our aim of providing safe, clean drinking water to consumers,” MRRI president Lito Maderazo said.

Days before the blessing of the Compostela plant, Mactan Rock signed a deal for another desalination plant in Guizo, Mandaue City. Construction of this new plant will be concretized in six months. This will be MRII’s 12th desalination plant in Cebu and will have a capacity of 3000 CMD.
