Trusting God in the eye of the storm

LIFE'S ESSENCE - Katherine R. Oyson - The Freeman

Singer Gary Valenciano’s revelation to Korina Sanchez  in “Rated K” is one testimony that bolstered our trust in the Lord’s goodness and mercy. Valenciano bares that it was God’s grace and miracle that his healing  and recovery was fast  despite of his being diabetic and insulin dependent.

It must be recalled that Valenciano underwent an open heart surgery after he felt intense pain while performing a number in his noontime show, ASAP. While recuperating from his surgery, he felt pain in the right side of his rib. It turned out that he had malignant cancer in his kidney. But it was God’s grace that after his kidney operation, he didn’t undergo chemotherapy or radiation. He is cancer-free.

Valenciano was so thankful to the Lord for the miracles that he received. He exclaimed, “Truly there is  really a God who existed.”

A relative also experienced God’s kindness and mercy when her husband was hospitalized for than a month. In the midst of her trial, she would even cry in the shower and persistently asked God for His mercy. True indeed, her husband was discharged from the hospital.

Writer Lyqamaravilla  of  mytwocentson,wor.com, states, “But what is peace? We define peace as the absence of trouble and wait for the circumstances to determine whether peace is a possibility.  That is not the kind of peace that Jesus promised. His promise was set against a background of unavoidable trouble. The promise was not that we won’t have trouble. His promise was that  if we abide in Him, we will have peace in spite of trouble.”

What do  you mean trusting God in the storm? Lyquamaravilla cites the following insights:

The eye of the storm is the safest spot to be in. When you’re in Christ, even if there’s destruction all around, you  have the assurance that you will stay safe. It doesn’t matter how intense the storm is.

The eye of the storm has the scary view.  I know it’s hard to relax when everything else seems to be falling apart, but that is what Christ’s promised peace is all about. It’s about having the assurance that nothing outside can touch us.

The eye of the storm is always in motion. I said that being in the center  of God’s will you are safe. Since Christ is in the eye of the storm we are always safe.

In the eye of the storm, storm God never forsakes us. He is always there to protect and guide us; what we need is our full trust in Him.

In the eyes of the storm, we must be  persistent in our prayer, and never waiver in our trust in God’s mercy and kindness. In fact, Jeremiah 29: 11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
