Mandaue Chamber pushes for creation of biz org in towns

Ehda M. Dagooc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) is urging businesses in the municipalities and towns within Cebu province to start organizing in order to push growth within the countryside.

Glenn O. Soco, MCCI president reiterated this call amid the immediate need for business players to work together in order to address local and internal concerns within their localities, at the same time partner with the local government units for productive and proactive programs that will ensure economic growth with their respective areas.

MCCI, according to Soco, is offering its expertise to mentor or to help organize a business organization in a town or cluster, such as its ongoing mentoring with Municipality of Minglanilla.

Minglanilla for instance needs to have a stronger private sector group, especially that it is part of the urban core, Soco said.

Soco added that MCCI already offered their expertise in helping form the business group in Minglanilla, sharing its best practices and organizational system, as the second largest business organization in Cebu.

Last year, Naga officially formed the Naga Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with the help of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Meanwhile, CCCI is also helping private sectors in other towns in Cebu such the creation of  Bantayan Island, Danao, and Naga Chapters.

Just as the Duterte-led government is pushing the rapid growth in the countryside areas, Soco said this thrust should be complemented by private sector's proactive move in organizing themselves as a group which would serve as  mouthpiece for the industry players. (FREEMAN)
