Book to the future: For the Globe Platinum series, ambassador Jay Oliva, the Filipino-American showrunner and executive producer of the Netflix hit series Trese, created a 76-page hardbound compilation of artworks containing never-before-seen imagery to the underworld in The Art Behind Netflix’s Trese.

In a Globe Zoom event recently, Globe Platinum subs were treated to a Filipino-powerhouse of artists, namely Leeroy New, Jay Oliva and Reese Ruiz  — who were introduced as the new ambassadors for Globe’s collectible series.

In a virtual sitdown, the three talked about their creative vision, what got them into their respective fields, and their inspiration for creating an extraordinary experience for Platinum customers.

Jay Oliva, the Filipino-American showrunner and executive producer of the Netflix hit series Trese, created a 76-page hardbound compilation of meticulously crafted artworks inspired by the series and containing never-before-seen imagery of Alexandra Trese’s journey to the underworld in The Art Behind Netflix’s Trese.

“Some artists, they stare at the wall; some artists, they go out for a walk,” said Jay Oliva. “As a storyteller, what inspires me are mostly experiences, good and bad. The stories take you out of your everyday life. Having the people fall in love with the story or the characters is really the utmost high.”

Leeroy New, a globally lauded Filipino visual artist and designer, created the Star Cluster collectible. Inspired by two large-scale sculptural installations, this is a massive vessel that resembles a colony on a different planet and Mebuyan’s Vessel - a semi-architectural spaceship.

“My work found its way outside of galleries when I was starting and I knew different can be good,” said Leroy New. “When I create I allow this dialogue between my hands and the objects that I find and this becomes a kind of response to what the world may need. My work aspires to transform.”

And the third ambassador to complete this creative collaboration, Reese Ruiz, a Filipino social entrepreneur as well as president and founding partner of the fashion design house Rags2Riches, has introduced a sustainable fashion line made from upcycled woven textiles and indigenous fabric from the Mundo Collection.

Out of this world: Globe ambassador Leeroy New, a globally lauded Filipino visual artist and designer, created the Star Cluster collectible.

“When I was young I wanted to be successful,” said Ruiz. “But when I got there something was still missing and then I found inspiration in collaboration. There is so much potential in people who are unexpected. I think that my strength is in bringing all these ideas together and collaborating with other people.”
