Alas makes VTV Cup semis
MANILA, Philippines — Alas Pilipinas stayed on course to capturing another medal in an Asian-level tournament as it ripped Est Cola of Thailand, 25-17, 25-21, 25-21, yesterday to barge into the VTV Cup semifinals in Phu Tho, Vietnam.
The Filipinas, who finished second to the host Vietnamese in Pool A with a 2-1 record, had to fend off the serious challenge by the Thais (represented by their Under-21 squad) in the final two sets to carve out the win.
The result catapulted the Nationals straight to the semis versus Russian club Koralbeka, which walloped Australia, 25-16, 25-16, 25-12.
A win by Alas over Koralbeka would ensure the Nationals another silver, matching their finish in the AVC Nations Cup also in Vietnam – the best for the Philippines in a Continental meet.
