Arellano Lady Braves bag NCAA crown

MANILA, Philippines — Samantha Maranan powered Arellano to its first volleyball title in the girls’ division at the expense of University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, 21-25, 15-25, 25-16, 25-11, 15-4, in NCAA Season 100 recently at the Filoil Center in San Juan.

Maranan bludgeoned the Junior Lady Altas floor with 31 points as the Lady Braves pulled off a reverse sweep in clinching the crown.

Catherine Cau did a splendid job in backing up Maranan, tallying 19 points built around 17 kills while Justine Galaga was likewise on a tear with 14 points to help the Lady Braves afloat throughout.

Sherrie Rose Acosta led the Junior Lady Altas with 20 points, majority of which came during the initial two sets where they seemed headed for a quick ending.

But Acosta suddenly lost the fire in Set 3 as well as opposite spiker Maya Javier and middle blocker Isabel Baser, allowing the Lady Braves to gain confidence and reverse the trend.
