Hoey fires 68, climbs to 17th

MANILA, Philippines — Rico Hoey produced a second straight four-under 68 to climb 14 places in the Corales Puntacana Championship on Good Friday in the Dominican Republic (yesterday Manila time).
Hoey, the only Filipino campaigner in the PGA Tour, fired six birdies to counter two bogeys for nines of 34-34 that enabled him to leapfrog to joint 17th on a two-day tally of eight-under 136.
The 29-year-old Hoey sat eight shots off pacesetter Joel Dahmen, who set the Corales Course of the Puntacana Resort on fire, going into moving day. Dahmen followed up his sizzling 62 opener with a bogey-free 66 to set a new 36-hole record of 128.
Meanwhile, Filipina ace Bianca Pagdanganan missed the cut at the JM Eagle LA Championship after submitting another one-over 73 at the El Caballero Country Club in Los Angeles.
