Davison, Alcantara spark PLDT victory

MANILA, Philippines — Savi Davison went supernova as PLDT overpowered Farm Fresh, 25-20, 25-17, 25-19, yesterday to stay inside the magic four in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena.
Davison was nothing short of spectacular as she unleashed a match-high 26-point effort that she loaded with 23 kills in just three short sets to propel the High Speed Hitters to a 6-3 record.
Angelica Alcantara, a rookie setter out of Adamson, was given a chance and also showed her mettle, dishing out 12 excellent sets while chipping in four hits for a PLDT squad bracing for a much-awaited confrontation with league leader Creamline on Feb. 15 at the Ynares Arena in Antipolo.
“I’m very happy with the win considering we’ll have a very big game next,” said PLDT coach Rald Ricafort.
Mika Reyes also came through, chipping in 10 hits while fellow middle blocker Majoy Baron contributed eight points.
It was a game to forget for Farm Fresh as none of its players ended up in double figures with Trisha Tubu leading her team with nine points.
Rachel Daquis, after more than a year of absence, is slowly but surely finding her rhythm and managed to contribute four hits on this one.
The Foxies fell to 4-5.
“We prepared well for this game, knowing Farm Fresh wouldn’t go down easily. We’re happy to have dominated,” said Alcantara in Filipino, emphasizing the team’s discipline, focus and responsibility as keys to their strong performance.
As expected, the Foxies fought valiantly, particularly in the third set, where they managed to lead in the early going and hold PLDT to a tight, intense battle. But after Reyes scored to break a 14-all count, the High Speed Hitters racked up 10 of the last 15 points to complete the straight-sets victory.
