Angelis Resort books quarters entry

MANILA, Philippines — Angelis Resort swept its elimination assignments to clinch the Pool A top spot in the cross-over quarterfinals of the 1st Uratex Philippine Women’s 3x3 International Invitational Saturday at the Robinsons Magnolia in Quezon City.

Camille Claro, Jenina Solis, Blanche Bahuyan and Maryjoy Galicia combined brute and finesse in beating top favorite South Korea G2L2, 21-15, in the opening game before pulling off an 18-16 decision over compatriot Uratex Tibay to secure an outright berth to the eight-team quarterfinals in the tournament dubbed “Manila Hussle 3x3” co-presented by Uratex and Smart.

Thailand’s Shoot It Dragons and Philippines’ Discovery Perlas finished with identical 1-1 slates but the Thais claimed the Pool B top seed via superior winning margin.

Also securing outright quarterfinal berth were the two Japanese teams Zoos Tokyo and Owls.Exe Kujukuri.  Bannered by Japan’s top 2 3x3 players in Aoi Katsura and Yuka Maeda, Zoos Tokyo beat two Philippine teams -- Army Altama (18-16), and Lady Macbeth Riots (16-15) in Pool D.

Owls.Exe Kujukuri also swept its group C assignments dominating Singapore’s Jumpshot (22-8), and the Philippines’ Uratex Dream (21-13) to remain in contention for the coveted trophy and championship prize of US$3,000.

The Filipinas make sure they have a strong chance in claiming history as three other local teams have joined Angelis Resort through the Pre-Quarter Finals knockout win with the Discovery Perlas composed of Allana Lim, Raiza Dy, Hazelle Yam and Xiaojing Zheng demolished Jumpshot, 21-9, while Lady McBeth Riots beat Uratex Tibay, 21-14, and Army Altama  G2L2, 21-7.

Koreans 1Eyehansol denied Uratex Dream to make it to the next round via a 19-15 victory.

The hostilities of the tournament under the auspice of Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas (SBP) continue on Sunday at 11:00 am which include the slum dunk competitions with no less than former Ginebra guard Jayjay Helterbrand and volleyball star Alyssa Valdez serving as judges.

Uratex Managing Director and head of the organizing committee Peachy Medina led guests and sponsors representative in sending love and inspirations to all participants as she gives important to women empowerment.
