Terrafirma stuns Meralco

ANTIPOLO, Philippines — Unleashing a hot-shooting Juami Tiongson and putting up a courageous stand, Terrafirma broke free from Meralco’s stranglehold and boosted its own stock.
With Tiongson waxing hot with 30 big points, the Dyip secured a 96-88 stunner over the erstwhile unbeaten Bolts to wheel back on track in the PBA Governors’ Cup last night at the Ynares Center.
Tiongson rifled in six triples out of nine attempts, doing the most damage in the fourth where the Dyip led by as many as 17.
The upset lifted Terrafirma to a 1-1 card after conceding a 130-115 defeat to Converge in its conference debut last Wednesday.
The Dyip not only stained the Bolts’ mark after a 2-0 start but also snapped their long-standing 12-game losing skid against Meralco in import conferences dating back to the 2015 Governors’ Cup.
“Actually hindi naman kami tumitingin kung ilang beses na kami natalo basta every game, bagong game sa amin and it’s important the we play better and to get a win,” Terrafirma coach Johnedel Cardel said.
Cardel’s troops made up for not getting the job done against the FiberXers despite starting that game well.
In the nightcap, NLEX grabbed a share of the lead after nailing its second straight win at the expense of NorthPort, 121-112.
The Road Warriors unleashed a 17-8 finishing kick en route to the top spot in the company of Converge and TNT. The Batang Pier fell to 0-3.
