Gilas wants European training

Olmin Leyba - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Training camps in Europe and the US as well as a pocket tournament in Manila are in the pipeline for Gilas Pilipinas in the homestretch of its buildup for the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

According to Gilas program director and coach Chot Reyes, preparations for the Aug. 25 to Sept. 10 world meet will go full blast at the conclusion of the PBA Governors’ Cup.

The pro league’s season-ender is targeted to wrap up by April 26 or 28 to free up its top stars for National team duties, beginning with the Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia in May all the way to the prestigious global showpiece itself on home soil.

“We’re already putting together our training program. It’s hard to get a fixed schedule right now but we have general ideas already on what we want to do,” Reyes said in the Power and Play program on Radyo Singko.

“After the PBA, we have to prepare for the SEA Games and then after that, we want to go on a European camp and after that, we want to train in the US so that Jordan (Clarkson) can join us for at least a month before the World Cup,” he added.
