Timberwolves' Towns to miss 'several' weeks due to calf strain
LOS ANGELES – Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star forward Karl-Anthony Towns will be sidelined indefinitely with a calf strain, the NBA team said Tuesday (Wednesday, Manila time).
The Timberwolves said an MRI exam on Tuesday "confirmed a right calf strain."
"He will be sidelined indefinitely and reassessed in several weeks," the team said.
Towns went down hard in the third quarter of the Timberwolves' loss to the Washington Wizards on Monday.
He had turned to head up the court when he clutched his lower leg and crashed down. Teammate Rudy Gobert and a team trainer helped him to the locker room.
ESPN, citing unnamed sources, said the team expect to be without Towns for four to six weeks, but anticipate a "full recovery".
Towns, 27, has averaged 20.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists in 21 games this season for the Timberwolves.
