Eala enters quarters

MANILA, Philippines — Unstoppable Alex Eala carved out a 7-6 (6), 6-2 win over Canada’s Katherine Sebov to enter the quarterfinals of the elite W80 Rancho Santa Fe yesterday in California.

It was not an easy sweep as Eala trailed early in both sets before regaining her touch in a feisty second-round victory in two hours and 12 minutes.

After staring at a 1-4 deficit in the opening setto, Eala unleashed a searing 5-2 rally to force a tiebreaker and the tough win eventually.
