Iroy plays role as PSC caretaker

Joey Villar - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) executive director Atty. Guillermo Iroy will handle the day-to-day affairs of the sports-funding agency until Malacañang eventually names a new chairman and four commissioners.

Iroy will temporarily sit as officer-in-charge being the most senior career officer in the PSC based on the memorandum circular release last Thursday by Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez declaring all appointive positions vacant.

“We’re going to meet Monday,” Iroy yesterday told The STAR referring to the PSC’s management committee headed by senior department heads.

At press time, there’s no word from the Palace as to who will succeed former chairman William Ramirez and his commissioners or if they, or some of them will be retained.

There were names being floated, including Ramirez and commissioner Ramon Fernandez, but President Marcos has yet to make any appointment.

Iroy said as OIC, he will man the desk in a limited capacity.
