Yuka at 14th, Bianca makes cut with 73

Olmin Leyba - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Fil-Japanese Yuka Saso fired a two-under 70 to run 14th while Bianca Pagdanganan shot a 73 to survive the halfway cut in the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship Friday in Bethesda, Maryland.

Saso knocked down an eagle on the par-5 11th to highlight a roller-coaster round that also featured three birdies and three bogeys en route to a two-under 142 aggregate.

The 20-year-old Saso, who is out for redemption after missing the cut during her failed US Women’s Open title-retention drive, stood nine strokes off Korean pacesetter In Gee Chun (133 after a 69).

Pagdanganan joined Saso in the weekend play with her three-over 147 after 36 holes at the Congressional Country Club.

The 24-year-old Pagdanganan salvaged a par on the final hole to preserve her place among 72 survivors. Pagdanganan thus made the cut for the second straight major after placing 64th in the US Open.

However, Dottie Ardina didn’t make it as she crashed out with a six-over 150.

Ardina improved on her opening 76 with a 74 but went three short of the cut line  and finished tied for 97th to 110th in the 155-player field.
