Lady Stags, Lady Knights prevail in five-setters
MANILA, Philippines — The San Sebastian Lady Stags showed incredible poise and grit in outlasting the Jose Rizal U Lady Bombers, 24-26, 19-25, 32-30, 25-5, 15-11, in the NCAA Season 97 volleyball tournament yesterday at the Paco Arena.
Given up for dead after dropping the first two sets, Reyann Canete and Katherine Santos teamed up in getting SSC back to life and into a share of second spot with Arellano U with their identical 3-1 records behind unbeaten College of St. Benilde (3-0).
Santos blasted away 22 points while Canete scattered 19 hits.
“What I love about these girls, they are simple and have no ego,” said SSC coach Roger Gorayeb.
Earlier, Letran registered its first win in four starts, beating San Beda in their own tough, extended duel, 21-25, 25-20, 25-15, 23-25, 15-9.
The Red Spikers sputtered to 0-4.
