MANILA, Philippines – Daniella Uy recovered big in a fiery frontside windup, gunning down three birdies to save a 73 although she stood seven strokes behind the hot-starting Mariel Galdiano at the start of the Oscar Williams Classic at the Hurricane Creek Golf Club in Anna, Texas Tuesday (Wednesday, Manila time).

Uy, who tied for 43rd in the recent Women’s All Pro-Tour event in Arizona, failed to get going with a two-bogey, one double-bogey card at the back but found her range and touch at the turn, birdying the first two holes and then dominating the par-5 No. 6 for a closing 33.

But her one-over card could only put her at joint 28th as Galdiano also turned in a scorching frontside finish with four straight birdies for a 66 and a two-stroke lead over fellow Americans Elizabeth Wang and Emma Edwards and Great Britiain’s Alison Muirhead, who carded identical 68s.

Lois Kaye Go, meanwhile, eagled the par-5 second hole but wavered with six bogeys against two birdies to tumble to a share of 36th at 74.

The top Filipina amateur, priming up for the pro ranks, birdied the 15th to go one-under but bogeyed the last three holes for a 36-38.

It was a sorry finish for the Cebuana find, who sparked hopes of a fiery round after completing an early eagle feat but bogeyed two of the next four holes. She recovered a stroke on No. 7 but yielded another shot on the ninth for an even 36.

She snapped a run of pars with another birdie on No. 15 but she stumbled with mishits and missed putts in the last three to fall behind by eight.
