Expo ushers in Rock ‘n’ Roll run series week

MANILA, Philippines — An exposition on health and fitness takes place starting today at the Mehan Garden in the lead-off to the ASICS Rock ‘n’ Roll running series which fires off Sunday at historic Rizal Park.

Close to 5,000 runners gear up for the first staging of the world’s largest running series in Asia after the pandemic in a race that will cut across Manila’s most iconic locales and neighborhoods, including the National Museum, the Walled City of Intramuros, Manila Cathedral, Manila City Hall and the Kartilya ng Katipunan.

But before the runners take to the streets, they’ll need to head to the expo for the bib number and race kits collection, giving the event’s sponsors the chance to interact with potential clients in a casual atmosphere.

The claiming of the bib number and race kits will start at 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today until Friday and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The organizing IRONMAN Group and Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series are committed to guarantee the safe conduct of the event. Precautionary measures have been put in place – from the collection of kits to pre-event listup.

As mandated by the host city, only participants with COVID-19 vaccination cards will be allowed to join while the unvaccinated will be required to present their 48-hour pre-race antigen results.

The four-category run mixes running and endurance with partying and a concert. Participants will be treated to music throughout the route.

The 10K and 5K races will be flagged off at 5 a.m. and 6 a.m., respectively, while the 21K and 42K events will start at 5 p.m., both at Rizal Park.

Celebrities and running buffs Troy Montero and Kim Atienza will also grace the blue-ribbon event, held as part of the city’s 450th founding anniversary with the Philippine Star, One Sports, Cignal and Sportograf.com as media partners.
